I'm happy to announce that the popular Winter Lesson Series will be returning to 'His Way Farm' on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month from Jan through March. I will be teaching all but one of the lessons as I will be out of town on Jan 18th. Fortunately Kyle has agreed to fill in for me before he heads down to Aiken for the winter. For those have not ridden with Kyle before; I think you will really enjoy his teaching style that many people of all ages and experience levels really enjoy. For those who are not familiar with us and our background you can check out a brief bio here.
For those of you who have not had the opportunity to ride at 'His Way Farm' yet; I would like to share some links with you that will show you the facility, a Google map and a clinic report from an earlier clinic with pics and video. As you can see from the pictures the arena is huge and the lounge very comfy. This is a wonderful opportunity to get help with honing your skills over the winter months so you'll be ready to go when the competition season arrives. Even if you don't have any competitive goals; it's still a great opportunity to get out of the house and spend some quality time with your horse and hang out with your horsey friends and perhaps even make some new ones.
This lesson series will have different subjects each lesson. Participants do not have to attend all the sessions but they will be progressive in nature. Since most of people don't have access to an arena of this size all the lessons (with the exception of March 15th) will be jumping with a fair amount of flat work as it pertains to jumping will be addressed during the warm up. Riders will be grouped together based on the level of the rider and the horse. The cost of the lessons is $35 each and $20 for the Dressage Lecture / Demo. Groups will be limited to 3 or 4 riders which will limits us to approximately 20 riders / day.
Spots will be assigned on a 'first come' basis and you must use the on-line registration form All registrations must be received by the Wed before the lesson for scheduling purposes. Late entries may be accepted if there is an appropriate spot available.
Make checks payable to Stone Gate LLC or pay on-line via PayPal
I'm looking forward to working with you and your horse.
Jackie
Jan 4th: Gymnastics - there will be 3 different gymnastics set up with something for every rider and every horse no matter the level to help both rider and horse improve their jumping skills.
Jan 18th: Developing Instincts of both the horse and rider - aka survival skills: this lesson will be similar to the first day at a Lucinda Green Clinic where a variety of unusual questions will be set up such as narrow faced fences, points, corners, interesting angles and distances where the rider will learn to ride the horse with the correct rhythm, energy, line and balance so the horse can figure out the answer to these questions. These skills are necessary for riding cross country courses successfully and safely. Even those riders who will never ride a cross country course, these exercises will help to develop the partnership between the horse and rider.
Feb 1st: Course Work - riders will practice developing the 'quality' canter required to jump a course smoothly throughout. Both straight line bending lines practiced before putting it all together in courses. The courses will vary depending on the level of the horse and the rider.
Feb 15th - Combination Lesson - this lesson will contain elements of the first three lessons with a bit of gymnastics, tricky fences and lines and course work
March 1st: Riders Choice - Participants can make requests for what they would like to do it this lesson
March 15th - Dressage Lessons - a limited amount of 45min semi private dressage lessons will be available before and / or after the Dressage Demystified Lecture / Demo. Click here to register.
From the Point of View of the: Judge, Rider, Trainer and Instructor
Sat. March 15 ~ 1:00 – 3:00 ??
Do you want to review the New Eventing Tests?

Leigh Fischer Clinic Schedule - Revised 11/15
Hi All,
The clinic has been moved to VanScoy's 'His Way Farm' due to lack of daylight, cold mornings and a chance of rain on Sun. I think everyone will be more comfortable there ;) Since we'll have access to the lovely heated lounge we will be doing a pot luck lunch both days. I will be bringing soup both days and there will be water & hot water for hot chocolate and cider. So bring your favorite dish to share with the others.
Since some of you have not been to VanScoy's before I am including a link to a Google map to help you find your way to the farm. Click here to view the map before you plug the address into your GPS. If not, you may find yourself on Teegarden Rd which has a fairly significant hill with S turns which aren't ideal for horse trailers. If you're driving a car you'll be just fine. Please note, the house number is missing if you are coming from Teegarden but there should be a horse windsock at the end of the drive. Scroll down to view a map of the farm and please park sensibly. Thanks
Weather permitting we will be able to use the outdoor ring for warm up. Since we have a full day scheduled you may want to be warmed up and ready to go. Check in at the lounge first to see if we're running on time and to drop off anything that you may have brought for the 'pot luck' lunch. If anyone is available to stick around at the end of the day on Sat; we'll need a little help setting the course for Sun.
Scroll down below the farm map to view the schedule. We're looking forward to another fun filled weekend ;) If you have any questions please e-mail

Camp Update - July 14
A few tweaks in the schedule ...
This camp has been crazy to schedule this year as we have fewer people doing the full camp and others just filling in here and there. I hope I haven't messed things up. I'm only going to post Sun - Tues schedules as the other days are still a work in progress and I wanted to get something out to you. Not to panic, Sun is not a part of camp, but for those who wanted to ride with Leigh but couldn't be fit into the Mon schedule.
All the Mon & Tues dressage lessons are 45 minute semi privates and the show jumping lessons are anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half depending on the size of the group with the cross country lessons a bit longer. The Wed schedule for those who are doing the whole camp can be a "ride a test" and a "ride a course" lesson which will be private for dressage and semi private for jumping and a bit shorter or you can ride a regular lesson. Just let me know what you would like to do for scheduling purposes. Thurs will more than likely be cross country.
This camp is primarily riding and I strongly encourage you to watch other lessons; you will learn a lot but we will have some additional activities. I will be available to do my Power Point presentation on 'Dressage from the Judge's Point of View' during lunch on Mon and unless I get some late additions, we will be having Eric do a XC demo ride at the end of lessons on Mon. Tues we will be setting the show jump course and at the completion of lessons we'll walk the course with Doug & Eric to get their perspective on how to ride the course for Wed. After Wed lessons Wed we will have a round table discussions with Eric and Doug where you can ask whatever you would like ... well almost anything; it has to be related to horses ;) The discussions can continue at dinner at VanScoys 'His Way Farm' where we'll be having ribs and corn on the cob If you haven't signed up for the mean plan, you can add this dinner for $10. Finally, for those tired and aching muscles; Laura Gentile will be available to massage you and your horses.
I'm not going to bother with stall assignments other than Autumn laying claim to stalls 69 & 70 in the pipe barn. The pipe barn tends to be the coolest and the second choice for stalls would be on the west side facing the woods near the water. Remember NO bedding is provided and stalls need to be stripped before leaving.
For those of you who are doing the meal plan please note that it will be available at the house. If you would like to sign up for meals or you have special requests please let me know as I'm going shopping on Fri. There will be water and snacks available in the stabling area and feel free to cut into the watermelons that will be floating in the cistern. Since I don't do coffee Autumn has volunteered to share her Keurig coffee (or tea) maker (and generator) for those staying who want/need coffee. Just bring a cup and a few extra K-cups so we have enough!!!!
It looks like it's going to be a warm week but hopefully dry so plan on bringing your swimsuit. The pond water is great!
I think this is it for now. Below is the schedule for the first 3 days. Looking forward to a great camp.
